OUR COMMITMENTS
Sustainable development actions.
Since its creation, Cosmo Jazz Festival Chamonix has been committed to an ecological and civic approach. The festival takes place in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley, a unique environment that we want to preserve. As a free festival, our aim is to make culture accessible to everyone and to welcome audiences in all their diversity, including people with disabilities.
Our sustainable development actions are structured around the following 5 axes:
Reduce and recover waste
Preserving the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley is an important issue that the festival has embraced since its creation. Ecolectos have been set up at all concert venues to manage and sort waste. We use returnable cups to reduce waste production. A major effort has also been made to raise public awareness of waste sorting. Our volunteer teams inform festival-goers about selective sorting and help keep the sites clean. The festival aims to systematize ecological solutions in order to reduce festival-goers' waste production as much as possible.
Preserve the natural environment
Electricity and fossil fuels
The festival tries to reduce fossil fuel consumption as much as possible. We do not use any fuel-powered generators that emit CO2. The town's technical services help us set up the necessary electrical connections. On two sites (Emosson Dam, Argentière Glacier), electricity is produced locally thanks to the Emosson Dam.
We favor the use of electric vehicles, which make up 25% of our equipment.
Whenever technical conditions allow, we prioritize electricity generated by photovoltaic cells.
Paper
Our communication materials (flyers, leaflets, posters, etc.) are printed on ecological paper from sustainably managed forests. Print quantities are also reassessed every year to avoid waste. In addition, the printing paper used throughout the year in the association's offices is made entirely and exclusively from reused recovered paper (APUR label, Blue Angel and ISO 14001 certification).
Festival accessibility
From the beginning, CosmoJazz has made a strong commitment: to offer a free festival so that culture is accessible to everyone. Our aim is to introduce diverse musical styles, sometimes unfamiliar to the general public, and to allow artists to meet their audiences.
Structural adaptations can sometimes be difficult to implement because of the constraints and specific features of the mountain environment, but the association works to make the festival accessible to everyone in the best possible conditions. This is why we are working on broadcasting our concerts in altitude.
Sustainable mobility
Transport
Free transport or very attractive fares are offered to festival-goers to reach the festival. SNCF provides reduced-rate TER train tickets (30% to 50% discount). Free shuttles are also set up to connect Chamonix with the various concert sites.
Carpooling
The festival website relays carpooling offers to connect festival-goers and help reduce the environmental footprint linked to audience transport.
Electric fleet
For the organization of the festival, we prioritize the use of electric vehicles: they make up 25% of our equipment.
Support solidarity initiatives
Every year, we work with the Foyer de Magland, an establishment for adults with mental disabilities. We welcome them among our festival volunteers, integrating them into the public reception team and enabling them to take part and attend concerts.
